Eye Lashes -
The photos below show the process on an eye lid mechanism that has been
removed from the head. However, you do NOT need to open the head and
remove the mechanism to remove the lashes. If you want to remove the
lashes without opening the head, simply place your Blythe doll's head
face down in a bowl of warm water. Leave her soak for approximately 20
minutes. This will loosen the lash glue and you will be able to pluck
the lashes out as shown below.
Another option, if you want thicker looking lashes, but do not want to
remove the stock lashes, is to just apply false lashes on top of the
stock ones. This way, if you want to go back to the stock look, you
simply peel off the false eye lashes.

WITH the mechanism removed ~
If you have opened the head, you can soak just the eye lids in a bowl of
warm water for approximately 20 minutes to loosen the glue. In the photo
below, I have the eyeballs also soaking because I needed to remove the
stock eye chips. I remove the spring from the lid mechanism to prevent rusting. |

When you
remove the lids from the water, the lashes may be practically falling
out on their own. Try just pulling on them with your fingers. |
|
|
-
If they
don't seem to want to come out, grab a pair of tweezers and pull them
out, one by one.
-
On the
chance that you have super stubborn eye lashes, you may need to soak
them again.

Check the
slot where the lashes fit. There may be some glue left in the slot.
Use a small needle and carefully swipe thru the slot, removing the
glue. You want the slot clear so that you will be able to insert the
new lashes. |

I normally
buy false lashes in the makeup department. If you are looking for
fantasy colors or something fancy, you may want to shop around online.
-
Usually
you can use one eye lash to do both eyes on a blythe by cutting one in
half. Sometimes, with the fancier, feathered lashes...in order to
achieve a uniform look you will need to use one per eye, just cutting
each one down some.
-
You will
want to hold the lash along the slot and cut to fit.

-
I do not
use any glue when installing the new lashes. The types of lashes I
have bought have a sticky strip so that when I insert them in the
slot, it holds them in.
-
I use a
needle and carefully push them into place in the slot.
-
If you do
want to use some type of glue, please make sure it is a water soluble,
clear drying craft glue. You want to be sure that they will be easily
removable if you wish to do so in the future. Also, super glue will
damage (eat away) the plastic over time...not to mention it dries very
crusty and will just look nasty.
