Caring for Mohair -   Mohair can be a bit hard to care for and more fragile than saran.  But, there are things you can do to keep it looking nice.
One thing I want to point out is that there are different types of mohair, as well as different methods for rerooting that can effect the type of care and styling available.  For example:  I have a mohair blythe that was created by Leo of Hey Little Girl.  I am able to wash and condition her hair, put it in curlers and style it many ways and it does not shed.  However, the mohair reroots I have done, because of the type of mohair I used, as well as the method (lock loop), need to be cared for differently. They do shed and will tangle and matte up if you aren't careful.

My best advice is, if at all possible,  you should talk about the type of mohair care with the person who customized your Blythe.  If that is not possible, you can follow the tips below.  They were written for the "floofier" type of mohair reroots that I have done and that can be seen in my Mohair Customs album.
If the mohair gets a bit flat, frizzy or just out of shape due to wearing hats or different hairstyles, here are some tips to restore the “floof".
  • You can stand by the sink, with warm water running, wet your fingers and run them through the hair...wetting individual plugs that are flat or frizzy. You don’t need to completely saturate the hair, but just use the water to help tame it and bring the curl back. Let her hair dry. Some plugs may look like they are still wet, but if you run them between your dry fingers, the “wet look” will disappear.
  • You can also use a spray bottle to spritz the hair with water, dampening it and then use your fingers to style.
  • I always use warm water, as I have read that cold water will lock the mohair fibers, causing it to become matted.
  • Try scrunching the hair up while it's damp to help bring back the bounce.

If you feel the mohair needs more than a quick fix...it looks dirty, etc., you can try the following ~
  • You can wash the hair with a mild shampoo and also condition the mohair.  DO NOT AGITATE or RUB the hair together or the fibers can lock and matte together.  Also, again, I do not recommend using cold water because I have read that it will matte the mohair fiber.
  • Use your fingers to separate and style the hair.
  • You can also scrunch the hair with your hands to bring back some of the curl.
  • Although you shouldn't brush/comb mohair like you would saran hair...if there are tangles, you can use a fine toothed comb to get them out.  Just be very careful.  Hold onto the strand you are combing towards the top and gently work with the comb to remove the tangle.  The trick is really to work strand by strand or on a very small section at a time.
